WHAT IS YOUR FEEDBACK QUOTIENT

The ability and willingness to communicate effectively are keys to managerial success. As organisations become more complex and less personal, the need for clearer communications increases steadily in significance. Almost all mangers will give a perfunctory" tip of the hat " to the importance of feedback, fully believing that they are doing it exactly right. The reality is that while practically any feedback is better than no feedback, there is an incredible range of opinion as to what people consider good feedback to be.

The ability to provide clear, credible information about another's performance can make the difference between your being seen as an annoying boss who simply oversees the work and being regarded as a coach who is able to support effectiveness and foster ongoing personal growth. The importance of feedback is that it is the only means available for constantly shaping behavior. Giving effective feedback requires only a little awareness and some familiarity with a few simple guidelines and principles.

The following instrument can be used to assess individuals' current understanding of how effective they are in giving and receiving feedback.
